North East U18 won the toss and scored 271 for 6 in 50 overs.

An excellent opening stand of 72 from Jamie Griffith 20 and Sam Lewis who went on to score a well constructed 92 before being bowled by Meirion Layton when the score had reached 157 in the 34th over. Some very intelligent batting from Alister Andrady 62, Connor Davies 48* and G Thomas 29* accelerated the scoring rate and set a very challenging 271 off the 50 overs. Only Josh Grant of the Eryri bowlers managed to gain some control bowling his first 5 overs for only 12 before finishing with figures of 10 overs, 1 maiden 2 for 55. The other successful bowlers were Sean Reilly, 5,0,26, 1 and Meirion Layton 7, 2, 2, 21.
Facing such a large total but on an excellent batting track, Jamie Grimshaw and Dan Evans opened in a very positive fashion and had 25 on the board after only 4 overs before Dan was caught behind for 5 in the 5th over. Jamie continued with a series of boundaries off the back foot in front of point but when he was bowled for 29 in the 10th over with the score at 42, the introduction of Sam Lewis and Conner Davies in to the attack slowed the scoring rate down. Connor had a superb spell of slow left arm bowling. He took 2 wickets in his first 5 overs without conceding a run and finished with excellent figures of 10 overs 5 maidens, 3 for 22. Meirion Layton batted very sensibly but found the spinners difficult to get away and scored 24 before being caught at short mid wicket off Josh Andrady who went on to get 4 for 28 from 10 very good overs of off spin. Only Josh Grant with an aggressive 26 managed to get the spinners away. When the quick bowlers returned to the attach, some attractive stokes from 13 year old Owen Reilly, who came in to the side at short notice and Kyle Brown, added 30 for the last 2 wickets taking the total to 133 from 41.5 overs.

2015 Eryri U18 172 for 8 in 45 overs. Morgan Murrey-Williams 43, Jamie Grimshaw 20, Rhydian Morgan 30*
North East Wales 61 a.o. in 23.2 overs, Ben Beaver 18, Jamie Grimshaw 7-1-21-3, Jamie Moorhouse 7-2-19-2,
Sion Reilly    4-2-2-2, Dan Evans 4-1-10-2

The Eryri batters found it difficult to raise the scoring rate above 3 an over due to tight bowling and fielding by the North East boys throughout the innings. Rhydian however did a great job with the lower order to score 40 from the last 6 overs in spite of 2 of these overs being bowled by our own Amlyn Layton, on loan to the North East, for only 2 runs.
A great opening spell from the two Jamies, who both got a surprising amount of movement off the seam on the usual very good batting track at the Bay, put the North East up against it at 16 for 4 after 6 overs. Good attacking bowling from the rest of the squad together with 2 excellent slip catches by Jamie Grimshaw meant that none of the North East's talented batsmen got started and the visitors innings closed in the 24th over.

REGIONAL FIXTURES 2014

Eryri U15 v Cardiff and Vale at Bangor

Eryri produced another well below par performance at Bangor - largely due to being only able to field 9 players - one of those being U13.
Batting first we totalled a disappointing 106 all out. Meirion Layton batted well for 40 from 96 deliveries. Only other batsman reaching double figures being Sean Relly 14 and Aron Hughes 13.
In reply, C&V knocked the runs off in just 18.5 overs for no wicket.
What promised to be an excellent season, has in all honesty, turned out to be a disaster. With just 6 committed players to the team, they have been let down by those who should have represented the region, but for so many reasons, were unable too.
Thanks to those who played in both games and to the parents for your unstinting efforts again!!

NE Wales v Eryri U15 at Brymbo

In a very one-sided game Eryri emerged with credit for their battling batting performance that only allowed NE Wales to take 4 of their wickets
Pick of the Eryri bowling attack, who in general bowled with no plans, rhythym or control, was 12 yo Mathew Jones (Llandudno), whose 9 overs of spin against attacking batsman yielded 3-45, Meirion Layton put in a good 9 over spell claiming 2-45, whilst skipper Morgan Murrey-Williams had an off day with his radar claiming 2-57  from just 6 overs.
In reply to a daunting 288, Sean Reilly played a couple of nice drives in his 25
Eryri were indebted to a slow partnership of 119 between Layton (66 not out) and Murray-Williams (74) for taking the sting out of the attack on a blisteringly hot day. Some late striking by the pair along with 11 from Llew Cowell pushed our total to 189-4
